Writing Workshop: Point of View with Vivian Dorsel

It all depends on how you look at it—and on who’s doing the looking. Characterization, setting, tone, style, and even the details of plot can change, depending on the point of view from which a story is told. Join author Vivian Dorsel to discover the impact pointof- view can have on your work. In this workshop, fiction and creative nonfiction writers will learn techniques that lead to a greater understanding of the writing process.

Vivian Dorsel is the founder of Ledgetop Publishing and editor of the literary annual, upstreet. She holds an MFA in Fiction Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and has conducted classes for writers of all ages and skill levels.

Needlepoint Workshop:
Painting with Thread: Needlepoint Basics and Beyond

Create a masterpiece with colored threads! Expert needlepoint artist Herbert Leiman will teach the techniques and nuances of needlepoint and inspire new interest in this meditative art form. The workshop will be held in the Museum’s beautifully appointed Linwood House.

A kit including your materials for the class will be available in the Museum Store at a discount; a list of necessary supplies is also available upon request. Bring lunch; we’ll provide beverages and snacks. Please preregister by July 29.

Virtuoso Painting with Gregory Manchess

Explore the art of realist painting with Gregory Manchess, a virtuoso with a brush whose artworks have appeared both on gallery walls and in our nation’s most prominent publications. Demonstrations, direct painting from the figure in light and shadow, and an emphasis on process and technique will inspire you to hone your abilities and acquire new skills.

An artist who strives to communicate emotionally with viewers, Gregory Manchess began his freelance career in 1979. Since then, his illustrations have appeared on the cover of Time, The Atlantic Monthly, and two Major League Baseball World Series programs. Smithsonian, National Geographic, Newsweek, The Walt Disney Company, Paramount Pictures, and Federal Express are among his many clients.

A supply list will be provided. Bring lunch; beverages and snacks will be provided. $225, $195 members.
