Stockbridge— On Saturday, November 18th, Norman Rockwell Museum opens the first major American retrospective of artist Leo Lionni, a groundbreaking modernist graphic designer and magazine art director who gained worldwide popularity as the writer and illustrator of nearly 40 children’s books in as many years.

Stockbridge, MA—Nov. 1, 2023—Norman Rockwell Museum announces the inaugural edition of Studio Sessions: The Norman Rockwell Collection, unveiled today by the Museum’s digital art partner Iconic, a company that expands cultural experiences through digital innovation. The inaugural “Session” will feature eight process works by Norman Rockwell from the Norman Rockwell Archives that went into the making of the artist’s self-reflective painting Waiting for the Art Editor (1970).

Stockbridge, Mass.—October 18, 2023—Norman Rockwell Museum and the Norman Rockwell Family announce the launch of Studio Sessions: The Norman Rockwell Collection—a multi-part series of limited digital (NFT) and print editions that celebrate and explore the artist’s rigorous creative process. The collection will be produced in collaboration with Iconic, a company that expands cultural experiences with digital innovation.

STOCKBRIDGE, MA—September 27, 2023—Norman Rockwell Museum is honoring baseball great Brooks Robinson, who died yesterday, by putting Rockwell’s iconic painting of the celebrated third baseman on display. Rockwell painted the tribute to Robinson in 1971 as an advertising commission for A-T-O, Inc.’s sporting goods division, Rawlings Sporting Goods.

Opening November 18 and running through May 27, 2024, Between Worlds: The Art and Design of Leo Lionni explores the artist’s vision and legacy across three distinct yet interrelated domains: graphic art and design; children’s books; and personal works in various media.

Norman Rockwell Museum's Director/CEO is one of six new commissioners appointed by the American Alliance of Museums, a museum industry group with 35,000 members. She will serve in this key role of national museum leadership to advance museum excellence and standards. "Over the years, Norman Rockwell Museum has received profound professional guidance, learning, and relationship-building through the Accreditation and Excellence Programs," Norton Moffatt said. Don’t be alarmed by the 30-foot sea monster outside of the Norman Rockwell Museum — it’s the new, inflatable staff member greeting visitors coming to explore the museum’s latest exhibit, “Tony Sarg: Genius at Play.” The museum is showcasing the largest exhibition of Tony Sarg, an illustrator, puppet master, pioneer in animated films and the designer of the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon, on display through Nov. 5.

STOCKBRIDGE, MA—Norman Rockwell Museum presents a new exhibition exploring the business and cultural context of Rockwell’s art. Norman Rockwell: The Business of Illustrating the American Dream examines how Rockwell navigated relationships with publishers, advertising clients, and other business entities to create work that shaped and reflected American culture and influenced notions of the American Dream. Based on extensive research in the Norman Rockwell Museum archives by guest curator Deborah Hoover, the exhibition shines new light on the interplay of artistry, advertising, consumerism, business relationships, and ambitious cultural, consumer and capitalist agendas that informed Rockwell’s work.
