FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: The Grapes of Wrath (1940)

This film is John Ford’s visual interpretation of John Steinbeck’s novel detailing the effect of the 1930s Dust Bowl on a family of Oklahoma farmers as they search for a new life in California. As with many of his films, Ford focuses on the internal family dynamic as they struggle through one of the most challenging periods of American history.

Similar to the way Norman Rockwell inspired and moved everyday Americans through his covers for The Saturday Evening Post, films often provide a glimpse of a romanticized America. Join us for this monthly series of classic and current films which explore themes featured in Rockwell’s paintings. Each film will be introduced by Curator of Exhibitions Jesse Kowalski to provide context, followed by an audience Q&A. Refreshments will be served. Free with Museum admission; Film only $10, $5 for members and children age 12 and under.
