Land of Enchantment

A Fantastical Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

Exhibition Dates    July 10 through October 31, 2021

Juried Exhibition Overview

Norman Rockwell Museum invites your participation in a most unusual juried exhibition of contemporary sculpture and installation art. Artists working in all media are invited to submit proposals for Land of Enchantment, a juried exhibition held in conjunction with the Museum’s upcoming exhibition, Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Art, opening on June 12, 2021.

For hundreds of years, artists have been inspired by the imaginative potential of fantasy. Unlike science fiction, which is based on fact, fantasy presents an impossible reality—a universe where dragons breathe fire, angels battle demons, and magicians weave spells. This outdoor installation will feature unique original works inspired by the exhibition’s themes of classical and contemporary mythology, fairy tales, and fantastical heroes and villains.

Installation Area

Works will be displayed on the museum’s beautiful 36-acre site overlooking the Housatonic River, and in the company of an outstanding collection of outdoor sculptures by Peter Rockwell (1936 -2020), Rockwell’s youngest son.

Lighting

Land of Enchantment will remain on view through the fall. Though it is not a requirement, please consider including a self-contained solar lighting system on or within your piece so that it can be illuminated at night. Access to electricity will not be available.

Awards

Commendations will be awarded for Best in Show, Most Inventive, Most Artistic, and People’s Choice (Children
and Adults).

  • Best in Show: $750
  • Most Inventive: $500
  • Most Artistic: $500
  • People’s Choice, Children: $200
  • People’s Choice, Adults: $200
