"The Unknown Hopper: Edward Hopper as Illustrator" exhibition

“The Unknown Hopper: Edward Hopper as Illustrator” exhibition at Norman Rockwell Museum.

On this date back in 1882, Edward Hopper (July 22, 1882-May 15, 1967) was born in Nyack, New York. Hopper’s ambition to become an artist worried his parents, who advised him to study commercial illustration instead of fine art. Don’t miss Norman Rockwell Museum’s current exhibition, The Unknown Hopper: Edward Hopper as Illustrator, which explores this little-known aspect of the realist master’s career; a gallery tour of the exhibition is planned for Tuesday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m., with additional tours through the course of the exhibition, which is on view through October 26, 2014.

This Thursday, July 24, starting at 5:30p p.m., join us for an evening lecture with noted Hopper scholar, Gail Levin, Ph.D., who will talk about her research on the artist’s life an career, which includes a four-volume catalogue raisonné (1995), as well as the books Edward Hopper: An Intimate Biography (1995), and Edward Hopper as Illustrator (1979). The talk is being presented as part of the Museum’s lecture series, “Impossible Craft: The Artist’s Biography.”
